International Studies at UTS: A Personal Perspective

Abstract

Reflecting on my time at UTS, this piece highlights the transformative role of the International Studies program, particularly the immersive In-Country Study (ICS) experience. By combining language, culture and contemporary society studies with global partnerships, the program fostered adaptability and global citizenship. My experiences at UTS, and later in the UK and China, affirm the enduring value of intercultural education.

Maja Mikula, Institute for International Studies, University of Technology Sydney

Maja Mikula's research interests are in the areas of (trans)nationalism, gender and the new media. As part of the Institute's cooperative research project on social activists and social change in international perspective, Maja is editing a volume on Women, Revolt and Social Change. Current research projects include: 'Nation, State and Political Leadership in Cyberspace'; 'Lara Croft, between a Feminist Icon and Male Fantasy'; and '"Living in the Trees"': the Italian Intellectuals in the New Millennium'. Dr Maja Mikula is available to supervise research students in areas of Italian literature and culture, contemporary Italian society, nationalism and gender studies.
