Bringing Your Work To Publication

  1. Initial submission

The Submitter must complete the UTS ePRESS Publication Submission form and include attachments such as a synopsis of the work, sample chapters and author bios.

An assessment will be made of the submission by the relevant Editorial Committee. UTS ePRESS will respond to all submissions. Where we decide to further consider the work, we will invite a full submission.

  2. Full submission

The Submitter must provide a full submission, including all documents requested by UTS ePRESS. This will generally include the final manuscript, all images and/or audio-visual content, and guidance on the desired style of the publication.

An assessment will be made by the relevant Editorial Committee based on a range of factors, including Peer Review. On the basis of this assessment, UTS ePRESS will decide whether to progress to publication. The submitter will be advised of the assessment outcome.

  3. Agreement to Proceed

The Submitter/Author will be required to sign a Publication Agreement.

Where we have agreed to proceed, the Submitter will work with one of our Publication Managers. The focus of this stage is to produce a final manuscript within an agreed timeframe.

Our publication managers will provide expert guidance on progressing the work through any further editorial, design and production processes to publication. Special editorial and design features may require additional work. The Submitter may be required to pay for, or secure their own production of, specifically desired features, eg. detailed indexing, specialist editing or design.

The publication managers work on multiple projects and will in general respond to an enquiry or request within 24 hours, depending on other critical operations at UTS.

The Submitter is responsible for reviewing, agreeing to and making editorial changes to the work, based on advice from the publication manager, within production timeframes. This includes ensuring all material in the work is copyright compliant, eg. securing permission to use images, text, maps, diagrams, audio, etc.

  4. Agreement to Finalise

When both the Submitter and UTS ePRESS have agreed to the final manuscript design and layout, a proof publication manuscript will be produced. The proof manuscript will be reviewed for final corrections.

Once the proof manuscript is agreed by the Submitter and UTS ePRESS, the digital file of the work will be completed.

  5. Agreement to Publish

Where both the Submitter and UTS ePRESS have agreed to publish the work in certain ways (eg. online or in print, in particular formats or versions), the work will be published by a mutually agreed date.

The Submitter is responsible for ensuring they have completed all their requirements within the production timeframe. This is especially important if the published work is required to be available by a specific date, eg. for a Launch or special function.

UTS ePRESS will not release or publish a work where it has not achieved appropriate quality and probity controls.
