The role of the JLA layout editor is to ensure that copyedited manuscripts conform to journal specifications in liaison with the lead author of each article. The layout editor creates the final published articles as PDF files, compiles articles to create journal issues in the online system, and works with the editors-in-chief to ensure timely publication of 3 issues a year. Becoming part of the journal publishing team offers a great way for up-and-coming learning analytics community members to get an inside look at the publication process.
This is a paid position with an estimated effort of 15-25 hours per issue with the majority of work occurring in the month prior to issue publication in March, July and November. Position includes overlap with and training from the current layout editor on the next issue of JLA transitioning to full responsibility by the end of the year.
- Working with Word and LaTeX templates to ensure conformity of formatting style for the journal
- Liaising with authors and journal editorial team to prepare post-prints
- Ensuring the compliance with APA standards for bibliography (including DOIs)
- Working with OJS system to prepare issue release
- Assignment of meta-data to the papers (e.g. DOI)
Familiarity with formatting in Word and LaTeX, and working with templates in both software is essential. In addition the ideal candidate is deadline oriented, able to work within tight timeframes when needed and service-oriented as an author-facing member of the JLA publishing team.
