| dc.description.abstract | Maintenance and maintenance-management are getting more sophisticated and their performance enhancement can be achieved by the application of information and communication technologies. This paper presents a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as a valuable tool for improving effectiveness, efficiency and organization of maintenance in large engineering projects. The paper focuses on the Western Harbor Tunnel (WHT) project conducted in Hong Kong. It concludes that successful implementation of a CMMS requires significant commitments from the Organization in time, money, and resources. The success of the project is not only determined by an on-time, within budget and within specification, delivery of the software, but also measured by the value-adding of the system to the Organization. This case study paper combines information technology, management, and maintenance engineering to critically analyze the development and implementation of the CMMS in the WHT project. The study provides a thorough analysis of an IT-related failure in the second stage of the system application and examines its adapted remedial techniques. | en_US |
