Abstract:
Measurements of residual swirl in an industry-size axial-flow
pump unit have been conducted, using a Fechheimer probe. They
reveal that even though the unit's components have been
constructed according to well established procedures, there is
still significant swirl left in the flow. The measurements thus
point to ways for improving their design. In addition, the paper
describes the experimental facility and methods used. The
experimental results would also be useful as test cases for
comparison with numerical simulations.
