Abstract:
All levels of government are transforming and extending their services into online applications in Australia.
Electronic government (E-government) offers the potential to reshape the public sector and remake the
relationship between citizens and government. Electronic service (E-service) delivery has become a key theme
in government policy in most developed countries. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly vital that researchers
evaluate the Internet-based government E-service applications and provide a strategy to improve government Eservices.
Many sets of criteria have been proposed for evaluating electronic commerce (E-commerce) websites.
However, there is little guidance in the literature about the evaluation for E-government, especially in the field
of government E-services. The objective of this study is to examine the key factors influencing the adoption of
government E-services. Based on a questionnaire-based survey, the findings in this paper attempts to contribute
to the important improvement of government E-services by presenting the nature of Australian government Eservices
and discusses the key factors influencing the adoption of government E-services. It is concluded that
Australian government E-services are in the early stage and there still are problems need to be addressed by the
government agencies.
