Abstract:
Monophasic (without any detectable levels of B-TCP or CaO) hydroxyapatite
powders were produced via sol-gel method. The thermal crystallization behaviour was studied
by means of differential thermal analysis, mass spectrometry, FT-IR, X-ray analysis and
scanning electron microscopy. The plate-like morphology observed in the crystalline
hydroxyapatite precursor at 13O°C resulted in plate-like hydroxyapatite after higher temperature
treatment.
