Abstract:
This paper considers recent findings on the comparative performance of high-rise commercial office
building construction worldwide. The research comprised a survey of n real projects across twelve
countries. The proposed hypothesis that increased unit costs, which reflect more complexity or higher
quality, translate into decreased productivity rates was not proven to be a strong relationship. A number
of other relationships were found to demonstrate strong correlations. The paper concludes by establishing
a performance index methodology that can be used to compare construction performance across projects.
