Abstract:
The novel RDCT (Reconfigurable Dynamic Cache Tuner) model proposed in this paper tunes the cache size adaptively on the fly. It compensates for
the ill effect on the hit ratio caused by different Internet traffic patterns. Similar to its predecessor, MACSC (Model for Adaptive Cache Size Control),
the RDCT maintains the given hit ratio consistently. It differs from its predecessor by being the new conceptual combination: "MACSC plus real-time
traffic pattern detection (RTPD) plus the mechanism for adaptive parameter tuning (MAPT)". Unlike the RDCT the MACSC by itself does not selftune
with respect to different traffic patterns automatically. The MAPT capability adapts the initial sample size n for the point estimate calculation,
which is the core of the MACSC operation. The adaptation, which is self-reconfiguration in the RDCT context, is done in a dynamic manner according
to the traffic pattern identified by the RTPD capability.
