Abstract:
In recent years, literacy debates have been dominated by the voices of
politicians and policy makers on the one hand, and literacy educators and
researchers on the other. Teachers' voices, however, have been notably absent.
This paper attempts to redress this imbalance by reporting on a project that
was designed to learn more ofwhatis actually going on in primary schools
in the teaching of English literacy; and to learn more of teachers' views
ona range of topics relevant to literacy education.
