Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to review the return-to-work rates following acquired brain
injury in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).The reported return-to-work rates for the nine
ANZ studies varied from 29% to 64% with a median of 46% and for 23 international studies
the return-to-work rates varied from 19% to 88% (median also 46%).When the results of all
ANZ studies were combined to form a total of 1010 subjects then the overall return-towork
rate was 44%. A number of methodological concerns were raised and it was estimated
that only about 7-10% of persons with an acquired brain injury are likely to return to the
same job.
