Abstract:
The paper describes a professional development project which has the aim of
promoting and supporting pedagogically sound use of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) in a faculty of education in a university. The professional development
project, called the eChange Project, focuses on pedagogy first and technology second and
supports the academic staff of the faculty in their development of appropriate strategies for use
of ICT in their subjects. The paper focuses on the experiences and issues concerning the use
of ICT which arose in the teacher education part of the faculty. It explores the layers of
support that are required in the use of ICT in teacher education and analyses some of the
issues concerning professional development projects with teacher educators. An evaluation of
the success of some of the strategies used and a discussion of future directions for the project
are presented.
