dc.description.abstract This paper summarizes the developments of a genetic-based rate control algorithm. The aspect of rate control design focused on in this research work is specifically for implementation on the link/network layers. In this respect, the underlying concept is to adjust dynamically the transmission rate subject to variations in the network conditions such that distinct QoS requirements from individual users are complied with. The novelty of this work is mainly from two points of views: firstly, the consideration of near-far effects in the assignation of transmission power, and secondly, the dynamic allocation of bandwidth in accordance to the variations in network conditions which, include but not limited to, traffic characteristics and network loading. Simulation results show that the proposed rate control algorithm not only reduces the undesirable outage probability, but also increase the overall system throughput due to a reduced number of necessary retransmission. en_US
