dc.description.abstract Ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless technology has recently obtained a renewed stimulus and wider attention as Federal Communications Committee (FCC) of USA released unlicensed spectrum in the 3.1~10.6 GHz band for short range communications. Filters are one of the important components in the development of UWB transceivers. Further, filters are also important in the context of interference that may arise due to co-existence of other services within the allocated UWB spectrum. Our aim here is to present a design method of UWB bandpass filter using microstrip stubs based on Z-transform technique [1] coupled with particle swarm optimization method. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a powerful stochastic optimization technique [2] and it has been used to solve a wide array of different optimization problems [3]. In this paper, we utilize the PSO method within the Z-transform technique to design bandpass filters that cover UWB spectrum. We first introduce the PSO and Z-transform technique, explain the application of the PSO for the design of UWB bandpass filters and show results based on simulations. The PSO en_US
