dc.description.abstract The building of workplace capability has been a major focus for many organizations seeking to maintain their positioning in the more competitive globalislng market place. This effort has occurred contemporaneously with the emergence of knowledge based post industrial forms of work and the rethinking of vocational education and training systems and policies by governments to better meet the skill needs of Australian workplaces. As a consequence of these forces the role of the training and development practitioner and the nature of training and development practice in organizations is changing. This paper examines dimensions of training and development practice, which are seen as crucial for current and future workplace capability building in Australia. en_US
