| dc.description.abstract | Semi-active control devices, capable of utilising the best features of the active and passive control systems and providing adaptive yet reliable control for civil structures, have attracted a great deal of attention within the structural control community in recent years. Among various semi-active control systems Magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers that have demonstrated their superiority in meeting the requirements for civil engineering applications. In this paper, MR dampers are used as vibration control devices for reducing tructural response of the UTS five storey international benchmark model under various earthquakes. A fuzzy sliding mode controller is proposed as control strategy based on state feedback for controlling MR dampers and reducing structural responses. A numerical simulation using MATLAB is presented, comparing the proposed control scheme to other control strategies to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control law. | en_US |
