Abstract:
Nanosize cobalt oxides (CoJ0 4) were synthesized by chemical decomposition of cobalt octacarbonyl (Co,(CO)g) in toluene at the low temperature of 130·C. The crystallinity and microstructure were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The electrochemical properties of electrodes made of nanosized COJ04 particles were tested in Li-ion cells. The nanosized COJ04 electrode material demonstrates a stable reversible lithium storage capacity of about 460 mAhlg over 30 cycles.
